Italian kitchens with the ‘wow’ factor…

Masters of design and style

The Italians know just which shade of yellow to use… After Rosso Red, Giallo Solare Yellow is one of the next most favourite Ferrari colours, so that’s probably why yellow as an accent colour works so well in our contemporary Italian kitchens.  It’s likely to be one of the last shades you’d think of using, especially as vibrant yellow shades are hardly ever used in interior design at all. Yet used correctly, in the right proportions and with the right style and finish of kitchen, you can achieve stunning results!

Our ‘Moon, Dune, Diva’ and ‘Pentha’ ranges from our Italian Arredo 3 collection illustrate just how well yellow as an accent colour works… In a predominantly monochrome kitchen, with the odd touch of grey, intense yellow lifts the overall scheme to add visual pops of colour.

USED IN THE RIGHT PROPORTIONS, VIBRANT YELLOW CAN ACHIEVE STUNNING VISUAL RESULTS

In this kitchen, the spatially considered arrangement of open wall boxes uses the classic design configuration of three feature units. This same configuration is then repeated under the worktop, to add yet more visual interest.

AS A GENERAL DESIGN RULE OF THUMB, ALWAYS USE AN ODD NUMBER OF THE FEATURE ELEMENT

The same design rule of using odd numbers applies in this kitchen too, where the small bank of yellow wall units has five apertures. Of course, yellow as an accent colour should only be used sparingly but it doesn’t have to be limited to a monochrome scheme.

YELLOW WORKS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL IN CONJUNCTION WITH WOODGRAIN AND MATTE FINISHES

It’s the ideal complementary accent shade with pale wood and putty, and has been cleverly incorporated into this Italian kitchen. Matte finished units, subtle woodgrain and urban worksurfaces are bought to life with the addition of the yellow.

But to give the kitchen even more ‘zing’, the yellow open shelving units are made from a gloss carcass to add an extra dimension.

CHOOSING WHICH UNITS TO HAVE IN AN ACCENT COLOUR CAN SOMETIMES BE TRICKY

Knowing which units to have in an accent colour can be a tricky decision. Too little and the design will look like an afterthought… Too much and the design could date quickly and loose impact!
