WHAT MAKES A QUALITY KITCHEN?

A new kitchen is a significant investment, and quality is critical to ensuring it remains an investment. You may be wondering, 'What makes a quality kitchen?'.

In our latest blog post, we focus on what makes a quality kitchen and how you can ensure your perfect new kitchen withstands the day-to-day activity of a busy kitchen.

Start Off on the Right Foot

A quality kitchen begins with selecting a reputable supplier. At Ray Munn Kitchens, we work with the best in the industry for British and Italian kitchens to provide style and quality in our kitchen designs.

Quality Starts in the Carcass

It's a common misconception that a kitchen's quality lies in the doors' thickness. In reality, it's all about the carcass, as this component will support the weight and endure the wear and tear of your kitchen.

Quality Installation

The key distinction between a high-quality and inferior kitchen often comes down to the installation. Even a budget kitchen can last significantly longer if properly installed. However, pairing a high-quality kitchen with professional installation guarantees longevity. We pride ourselves on expert installation by experienced fitters who know our kitchens inside and out.

Colour Counts

Kitchen units that are mass-produced by manufacturers tend to come in a choice of up to three colours: white, cream, or oak. While this doesn't necessarily mean they aren't as high quality as a kitchen with more colour options, it is a telltale sign of mass production for profit over user experience.

Our traditional range is made bespoke for you, which means you can colour-match your kitchen to your vision.

The Hinges, Drawer Boxes, and Runners

The unsung hero of the kitchen is the cupboards; they are opened and closed multiple times a day, which means it's important that they are robust.

Opt for hinges from a reputable brand. Additionally, consider bottom-mounted runners, which should support the weight of the drawer base rather than the sides. Also, check if you can see the back of the drawer from above when it's fully open. When extended, the drawer should exhibit minimal sagging. If the front of the drawer drops slightly, it could cause the drawers to clash, potentially damaging the front of the unit.

Your drawers should open smoothly with minimal movement other than the glide of opening; the weight capacity is important, too. A load capacity of up to 90kg is ideal for drawers that will hold heavy items like pots and pans, but at the very least, it should be 40kg, which is a great question to ask your designer.

Guarantees Matter

Any high-ticket purchase should come with a guarantee, and the kitchen is no exception. Make sure you are clear on your guarantees and note the date you are covered up until. The length of a guarantee is often a good marker for quality, and you should avoid any purchases that come with a short guarantee.

We pride ourselves on sourcing the best products for our clients to ensure we can offer variety, different price points, and, most importantly, high-quality kitchens in Richmond.
