Copper, chrome or brass— what’s your preferred metallic kitchen accent?

In recent years, stainless steel and chrome have been firm favourites as the metallic accent in many kitchens.

Long before the popularity of stainless steel and chrome came along, brass was really the only choice.

CHROME ACCESSORIES ARE NOW CONSIDERED TIMELESS.

Stainless Steel is the preferred choice of many…

Kitchen taps, handles and even accessories were only ever available in brass until that point. But as tastes changed, and chrome plating methods improved, so too did the diversity of products available.

STAINLESS STEEL AND CHROME ARE NOW BEING RIVALLED BY COPPER.

This transition from brass to stainless steel and chrome coincided with the change in bathroom brassware, so that they became the standard, fashionable finish and brass was seen as old hat!

Copper kitchen accent

Copper— the new metallic for the 21st century…

But, like so many ever changing trends, shortly after the millennium, we saw the introduction of copper. This warm metallic, which was directly influenced by rose gold fashion accessories, was initially thought to be a short-term trend.

KEEP METALLIC ACCENTS TO A MINIMUM FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT.

However, this has not been the case and copper is set to stay! Its soft, lustrous tone will instantly create a warm sophisticated glow in your kitchen, just one of the many reasons why copper has become so popular. It’s a metallic that works really well with so many kitchen finishes. Possibly the most popular combination is to include copper accents in a deep blue painted kitchen, such as Hague blue. The ‘pops’ of copper add a bit of sparkle to the intensity of the blue shade, and look equally as fabulous if a second, contrasting painted shade is used.

BRASS— A STUNNING ACCENT WITH DEEP GREY UNITS.

One of our latest ranges, ‘Meg’ from the Arredo 3 collection uses brass as the accents throughout. Handles, freestanding plinth feet and even the edge detail of the cooker hood all feature this smart metallic.
