Kitchen ideas inspired by an Autumnal palette

Designers take inspiration from all manner of places, including online sources such as Pinterest, home interest magazines and trend forecasters.

Whilst these sources are certainly inspiring, nature, and indeed the way nature is affected by the seasons is some of the most captivating inspiration for designers, and none more so than Autumn. The bounty of rich colours as the leaves change is one of nature’s most impressive colour palettes, and a well-known favourite inspiration amongst Fashion and Interior Designers alike! From soft ochres, sand and even orange, to the rich array of brown and taupe tones, an Autumnal palette is one which co-ordinates so easily together. Even before the leaves finally change to their many shades of russet and brown, they display the most marvellous variations of green, making them a stunning colour combination for an interior kitchen scheme. Like many design led companies, leading paint manufacturer Dulux has a team of forecasters, designers and colourists working behind the scenes to identify trends, and especially colour trends for the year ahead.

In fact, it was only yesterday that Dulux announced ‘Brave Ground’ as its colour for 2021.

During the daytime ‘Brave Ground’ appears soft and sophisticated, but as the daylight diminishes, it becomes increasingly cosy and comforting, making it a perfect choice in a kitchen, either as the main colour or as an accent. It has been described as an ‘earthy and deep shade of clay’ and ‘the mothership of all colours’ as it complements virtually every colour you can think of!

Dulux pairs its ‘Colour for the Year’ with other complementary shades to create suggested palettes. One that caught our eye was ‘Trust’ - a palette reminiscent of the Autumnal shades that we’ve been alluding to, and very much in keeping with some of our kitchen designs.

Whilst ‘Brave Ground’ and these other Autumnal shades might appear better suited to a more classically styled kitchen, they work equally as well in a contemporary design of kitchen too! The kitchen, which is frequently referred to as the heart of the home, should be a warm and inviting space, especially in the cooler months. Likewise, during the warmer seasons, the last thing you’ll want your new dream kitchen to feel is stifling!

A north facing space is sure to feel warm all year round with an Autumnal inspired palette, whereas a south facing kitchen might be better suited to Autumnal shades mixed with cooler colours such as off-white, putty, grey and even green!
